Darien Kicks Off Sidewalk Sales
DARIEN, Conn. – Businesses are looking to boost their sales in the summer after a rough winter filled the streets with snow and made it difficult for people to go shopping. The annual Darien Sidewalk Sales and Family Fun Days will last three days all over town and will feature around 80 businesses, as well as entertainment.
"We're trying to get as many feet on the street as possible," said Darien Chamber of Commerce President Carol Wilder-Tamme. "Maybe someone will hang out to listen to the music, or take a stroll a nd do some shopping."
The number of participating businesses is the most in years, Wilder-Tamme said, and the list of entertainment options is longer than usual. Live music will be heard in the Grove Street Plaza, and jugglers, giant bouncy castles, slides and a giant inflatable obstacle course will be featured.
The businesses and events will be spread over the Goodwives Shopping Center, Noroton Heights and down Post Road. Many stores will offer discounts of 50 percent to 70 percent.
"It really gives the local stores a good chance to sell their merchandise," Wilder-Tamme said of the annual event, which has gone on for more than 20 years. It all starts Thursday and continues through Saturday.
