Chili Showdown was a wonderful networking event with terrific chili recipes to taste, refreshments and winning ribbons awarded. The event was hosted by DEANE, Inc. – Rooms Everlasting. DEANE was the perfect venue for this event with it’s many kitchen vignettes where the chili stations were located for the attendees. There was plenty of room for all and tastings galore. Everyone networked, tasted chili, voted and enjoyed themselves. What more could a chamber want!

Seven different chili recipes were sampled which varied from a White Bean Chicken Chili, a Vegan Chili and Chili Con Carne. The group all voted for their favorite chili for the “People’s Choice Award”. The winners were 1st Place: Cheryl Williams-Halstead CT  (White Bean Chicken Chile), 2nd Place: Janice Marzano-The DEPOT of Darien (“Chili for a Happy Crowd”) and 3rd Place:  Mark Rosenbloom-First County Bank (“Mark’s Master Chili). Honorable Mentions were given to: Ceci Maher-Person to Person (Chili Con Carne), Susan Cator -Darien Chamber of Commerce (“I Can’t Believe It’s Vegan” Chili), Whitney Harding-Paychex (“Italian Chili”) and Carl Trautman-Best Version Media/Darien Neighbors (Jerk Chicken Chili).

Rory’s Pub brought fantastic hors d’oeuvres to accompany the chili recipe tasting to promote the pub and their catering services. Bryan Malcarney, owner, worked on a special menu and presentation which included crab cakes on cornbread, avocado toast, bitesize sliders, and bitesize reuben in a springroll with sauce.

Sipstirs and owner David Wagner sample specially selected small boutique wines that go with chili. The group was also treated to sample Two Roads craft beer that is based in neighboring Stamford CT.
