DESCRIPTION:Discover the beauty of combining watercolor and encaustic painting in this inspiring hands-on workshop led by artist and educator Carolyn Childs. \nThe workshop begins with guided watercolor painting\, where participants will create their own imagery and explore color\, composition\, and creative expression. Students are also welcome to bring photographs or reference images to inspire their work. \nIn the second portion of the class\, you’ll learn the captivating art of encaustic painting—an ancient medium made from pure beeswax\, resin\, and pigment. Using heated tools and translucent layers of wax\, you’ll transform your watercolor paintings into richly textured mixed-media artworks filled with depth\, luminosity\, and dimension. \nParticipants will explore a variety of encaustic techniques using a hot iron and other heated tools while learning how to layer wax over watercolor to create unique and expressive pieces. You’ll have the opportunity to create multiple small works\, and one finished piece can be displayed in a Lucite frame\, included with the class. \nThis workshop is designed for both beginners and experienced artists. Step into a warm\, supportive creative space\, relax into the process\, and experience the magic of painting with wax. Whether you’re looking to learn a new medium\, deepen your artistic practice\, or simply enjoy a restorative creative escape\, this workshop offers a unique and rewarding experience. \nAll materials will be provided!  \nPlease feel free to bring any refreshments you would like for the evening\, including wine & snack!

SUMMARY:Darien Arts Center - Pumpkin Decorating Workshop at NAYA (Grades: Pre-school\, K\, 1\, 2\, 3\, 4\, 5)
DESCRIPTION:In the spirit of the season\, children are invited to embellish their own one-of-a-kind pumpkin!  The pumpkin decorating activity will feature all kinds of stickers\, found objects\, gems\, markers and paint pens to embellish pumpkins. All will be invited to make scary\, goofy\, or just plain decorative creations just in time for Halloween!  \nAfter the creations are complete\, participants are invited to enjoy a NAYA “Little Habibis” Kids Meal with their classmates. Kids Meals feature: one base (rice or salad)\, one protein (Chicken Shawarma\, Chicken Kebab\, Braised Beef Shawarma\, Kafta Lamb Kebab\, Cauliflower\, and Falafel) and up to five toppings with a choice of milk or juice. \nNote: Each child must be accompanied by an adult.
