The Darien Community Association (DCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the community through educational, cultural, and philanthropic programs. The DCA Thrift Shop is a key part of our mission, offering donated goods while generating essential funding for our scholarship and community programs.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Sales Associate who enjoys working in a dynamic retail environment. Primary responsibilities are to ensure inventory moves quickly and efficiently to the floor, to stock shelves/racks and curate appealing merchandise displays, and help drive sales through superior customer service.
Key Responsibilities
● Provide outstanding customer service, assisting shoppers with purchases, answering questions, and handling concerns with patience and professionalism.
● Work closely with the Stock Associate to ensure seamless inventory movement from back to front.
● Effectively communicate daily tasks to volunteers, as determined by the Shop Manager
● Create and maintain attractive, high-turnover merchandise displays, making mix-matched, secondhand items look inviting and shoppable.
● Effectively use the POS system to collect accurate information and successfully complete transactions.
● Monitor sales trends and identify slow-moving items for markdowns or promotions.
● Assist the communications manager with social media or promotional efforts to highlight special items or sales.
● Keep the store clean, organized, and welcoming for all shoppers.
Qualifications
● Experience in retail, customer service, merchandising, or sales preferred.
● Consistently demonstrate accountability, reliability, and professionalism.
● Collaborative and creative, working well with a diverse team of volunteers.
● Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to handle any difficult customer interactions gracefully.
● Strong design sense and ability to merchandise creatively with unique, ever-changing inventory.
● Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends.
● Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
● Ability to lift and move merchandise (up to 40 lbs)
● Comfortable standing for long periods of time.
