Connecticut Museum Open House Day at Museum of Darien

The Museum of Darien is delighted to participate in Connecticut’s Museum Open House Day on Saturday, June 14, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, welcoming the public for a day of engaging history, expert demonstrations, and immersive tours. Admission is free.

One of the highlights of the day will be the unveiling of the Museum’s newly refurbished Great Wheel, a rare and fascinating piece of colonial history. Visitors will have the opportunity to see how wool is spun on the Great Wheel by a professional spinner, who will demonstrate traditional techniques and answer questions.

Visitors are also invited to step back in time with a guided tour of the 1736 Bates-Scofield Homestead led by knowledgeable Museum educators. They will learn about life in 18th-century Connecticut and explore one of the oldest surviving structures in Darien.
In addition, the Museum’s Costume Curator will provide information on the current costume exhibit, “Darien Dresses Up!”, sharing how fashion and function evolved through the centuries and how clothing reflects the broader social history of the region.
