In A Heartbeat

In A Heartbeat is a nonprofit organization with the mission to prevent death from  sudden cardiac arrest. They focus on primary and secondary prevention methods to help yield higher survival rates. Each year 365,000 people suffer an out of hospital sudden cardiac arrest. The survival rate is less than 10%.

You can help save lives

Primary Prevention - Cardiac Screening Program

Did you know 23,000 youth suffer sudden cardiac arrest each year and 1 in 300 youth is living with an undetected heart disease? In A Heartbeat provides FREE electrocardiograms (EKGS) to children, teens, and young adults. They provide a full circle of care including high quality EKG acquisition, expert EKG interpretation, and timely follow up care. To date In A Heartbeat has provided over 10,000 FREE EKGS to youth and saved 54 lives with this program.

Secondary Prevention - AED Program

Did you know the only way to interrupt a sudden cardiac arrest from turning into sudden cardiac death is with immediate CPR and the quick shock from an AED? Each minute that goes by decreases chances of survival. In A Heartbeat donates AEDS to organizations in need and helps set up complete AED programs including AEDS within 3 minutes of all locations, training, and emergency action plan creation. To date, In A Heartbeat has placed over 850 AEDS and saved 7 lives with this program!

"When I was 17 years old, I suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. There was no AED on site. Nobody knew what to do. Thankfully, when someone called 9-1-1 there was a volunteer EMT next door who came over and gave me CPR until an ambulance arrived. Doctors said my chances of survival were one in a million due to the lack of preparation at the time of my cardiac arrest. I later learned I have a heart disease called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy which would have been detected on an EKG if I had one before my cardiac arrest. Our mission is to ensure no one has these low odds of survival!"
