Job Title: High School or College Student Helper
Location: The Darien Depot
Position Type: Part-Time
Hours: 10 hours/week. The schedule is Monday and Tuesday from 2:30-5:30 pm, and Friday from 2:30-6:30 pm.
Pay: $16/hour
Overview: The Depot, Darien’s Youth Center, is a non-profit dedicated to supporting the well-being of our youth by giving them opportunities to connect, grow, and give back.
Key Responsibilities:

- Assisting with Activities: Help facilitate and supervise recreational and educational activities for youth participants, including games, arts and crafts, sports, and workshops.
- Supporting Staff: Provide general assistance to Youth Center staff, including setting up and cleaning up after events, organizing supplies, and preparing materials for programs.
- Engaging with Youth: Build positive relationships with young people by offering support, encouragement, and guidance during their time at the center.
- Maintaining Safety: Ensure a safe and welcoming environment by adhering to all safety protocols and addressing any issues or concerns that arise.
- Administrative Tasks: Assist with basic administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and answering phone calls or emails as needed.
- Promoting Events: Help promote upcoming events and programs to youth and their families, including creating posters or flyers and spreading the word within the community.
- Operate Snack Bar: Assist in selling snacks, handling cash or electronic payments, providing correct change, and ensuring a friendly atmosphere.
- Inventory Management: Keep track of snack supplies, restock items as needed, and inform supervisors when stock is low
- Food Safety and Hygiene: Ensure that the snack bar area is clean, organized, and complies with food and safety regulations. This includes regularly sanitizing surfaces and ensuring food is stored properly.
Qualifications:
- Current High School or College Student: Must be a current high school senior or college student with a strong work ethic and solid references. Darien High School or Fitch Academy students preferred.
- Positive Attitude: Demonstrate a friendly, energetic, and approachable demeanor.
- Communication Skills: Possess good verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with youth and staff.
- Dependability: Show reliability and punctuality in all scheduled shifts.
- Team Player: Work well within a team setting and take initiative when needed.
- Interest in Youth Development: A genuine interest in working with and supporting young people.
