STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way
STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way has served individuals and their families impacted by intellectual and developmental disabilities, I/DD, (including Down syndrome and Autism) in the greater Darien area since 1952. If anyone who is homebound with, or concerned about, a special needs child or adult family member with I/DD please feel free to reach out to STAR's professional staff. Linda Snell, STAR's Director of Family Services, can be reached via email lsnell@starct.org to help with referrals to area resources, helpful tips, navigating state DDS, and other matters that will help you ride out this difficult time and benefit the well-being of your family. You can also visit STAR's website www.starct.org for regular COVID-19 posts specific to I/DD. We hope you will feel good knowing that you have a friend at STAR who will listen. The Bar Method Darien
We created a livestream Instagram account, @barmethodnyclivestream which is available for active members of our studio. Not only do our members have access to live classes taught daily by the teachers they know and love- but we also partnered with our sister studio, Bar Method NoHo in NYC, along with 4 other BM's in the tristate, to bring our members a variety of classes. Members can take the class live, which is really fun and social or choose to watch it at a time that works best for them. As long as you are an active member of The Bar Method Darien, you can gain access to our private Instagram streaming account as well as our library of Bar Online classes. If you are not a member, you can purchase a week of streaming by emailing us directly at darien@barmethod.com A smartphone or tablet to stream the class as well as a chair or counter top to act as the bar. Weights (or water bottles) are optional as are a towel, small throw pillow, or a belt to use for stretching. The Bar Method, and our studio specifically, is built on community. Although we can't physically be together during this time, we adapted quickly to keep our BMD family feeling connected to us and to each other. We think of these livestream classes as a time to put aside the fear and uncertainty of these times. They're a time to connect and move your body - our two priorities now and always. Exercise is a proven way to boost immunity. Plus, you will NEVER feel worse after taking a class. It's more important than ever to take care of yourself, both physically and mentally, and we are proud to be able to offer our clients a bit of joy each day.
